Rallying
I was lucky enough to work as a photographer for Rally Sport Magazine, Autosport, Fast Ford, WheelBase, Vauxhall, Hendy Ford and others during the 1980’s and 1990’s covering hundreds of events mainly in the UK but some overseas.
As of April 2020 I’m currently scanning my archives of over 25 thousand colour and black and white images from this time and adding images here, it may take some time, so please come back and check! If you would like information on any images from events during that period please do contact me.
The ‘Golden’ age of World rallying was in the 1980’s when the monstrous ‘Group B’ cars ruled the roost with their flame spitting exhausts, outlandish aerodynamics and breathtaking speed. Alas the spectacle of those cars will never to be repeated. You will find images below from a range of events from local club events to rounds of the two major national championships at the time and international events. I have broken images out into galleries covering all major manufacturers and teams as well as some highlight galleries that I think convey the feel of events at that time the best.
Whilst some of the images would no doubt look technically better if taken with modern equipment, remember they have been taken on equipment in many cases over 35 years old and scanned into an electronic format. A British forest in winter is generally a dark and unforgiving place for photography!
